According to KHL Insider Aivis Kalniņš, the Red Wings are among teams interested in signing 24 year old Russian center Vladimir Tkachyov once his contract ends in April 2019. Tkachyov plays for the defending Gagarin Cup champions AK Bars Kazan where he put up 22-14-36 in 53 regular season games in the 2017-18 season.
Here is a sample of the skill level Tkachyov has showcased in the KHL:
With recent European signings like Patrik Rybar and Libor Sulak, it is clear that the Red Wings are looking overseas more and more to get talent for their roster.
Tkachyov would be an excellent addition to the current roster, as the depth in the center position is sorely lacking. The Red Wings represent an interesting opportunity for Tkachyov, as the other teams interested in the Russian 24-year-old center, are looking to compete in the short-term.
The Golden Knights, Flames, and Blackhawks all want to be back in the playoffs and stay there – Tkachyov would just represent another cog in their system.
In Detroit, he would have a much greater opportunity to make the NHL and make his mark in North America for the very first time.
