The Red Wings today have announced the recalls of left wing Taro Hirose and defenseman Gustav Lindstrom from the Grand Rapids Griffins. Additionally, center Frans Nielsen and defenseman Mike Green have been retroactively placed on injured reserve.
Hirose, 23, had 4 goals and 15 assists for 19 points in 22 games with Grand Rapids this season after being sent down from Detroit. Given his production, it’s worth giving him another shot on a team desperate for more scoring.
As for Gustav Lindstrom, the 21-year-old defenseman has 5 assists in 45 games in his first pro season in North America. Lindstrom has recently made waves in the Red Wings fandom after a promising review from Red Wings Director of Player Development and Assistant Director of Player Personnel Shawn Horcoff. That review highlighted comments GM Steve Yzerman made that stated Lindstrom would likely receive a recall at some point this season.
