The Red Wings today have released their roster for the Traverse City Prospect Tournament, which is the tournament’s 20th anniversary. The tournament will take place from September 7th to 11th at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Michigan.
At the top of the roster are 2018 1st round pick Filip Zadina, 2018 1st rounder Joe Veleno, 2017 1st rounder Michael Rasmussen, 2016 1st rounder Dennis Cholowski, and 2015 3rd rounder Vili Saarijarvi. Some other prospects to keep an eye on would be first-year pros David Pope and Givani Smith, Christoffer Ehn who’s entering his first year pro in North America, and 2018 2nd rounder Jared McIsaac.
The Red Wings free agent invitees are goalie Justin Fazio, center Nicolas Guay, right wing Pavel Gogolev, and left wing Maxim Golod. Pavel Gogolev has the best shot at an NHL contract of the four and is also teammates with Red Wings prospects Zach Gallant and Cole Fraser in Peterborough of the OHL.
You can see the rest of the roster here.
Some omissions people might ask about would be Evgeny Svechnikov, Filip Hronek, and Libor Sulak. Hronek and Sulak both had stellar showings at the IIHF World Championship for the Czech Republic, with Hronek having an inside track to make the Red Wings roster out of training camp. Svechnikov will compete for a roster spot, but probably ends up as the first man called up in the case of an injury and should start out on a revamped Grand Rapids first line.
As a reminder, Red Wings prospects in the NCAA aren’t in attendance because their college year will already be underway and prospects playing in foreign leagues will already have their seasons underway.
