Michael Rasmusen has put himself in the position to make the Red Wings 2018-19 roster out of camp. Rasmussen has missed parts of the past two seasons in the WHL with the Tri-City Americans due to injury but didn’t allow that to stop him from playing at over a point-per-game pace and putting together a phenomenal playoff run this past season in which he dominated. Rasmussen fractured his wrist in March of 2017 and had surgery on his wrist in December of 2018 so he could be back in time for a playoff run and to open up his offseason for a healthy couple months of training. The 6’6″ 220 pound forward has made a name for himself with his stellar net-front presence on the power play and will look to earn one of those two spots on the power play when he makes the Red Wings.

Rasmussen was drafted in 2017 after putting up 32 goals and 23 assists for 55 points in 50 games in an injury-shortened season. Rasmussen followed that up with 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points in 47 games in which he saw several statistical improvements. His stat line in his dominating playoff performance was 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 14 playoff games.

Michael Rasmussen’s status as a Red Wing has become very clear this offseason with people such as Craig Custance of The Athletic and MLive’s Ansar Khan stating that Rasmussen is a near lock to make the team out of camp. Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland has also stated that he’s expecting 2-3 young guys to make the team out of camp. Rasmussen doesn’t have much to learn at the WHL level, putting together back to back 30 goal seasons. His game could use refining at the NHL level where he’ll start out on the wing, which is where he spent most of his WHL season. Early projections have Rasmussen on the wing learning from Frans Nielsen.
