The Washington Capitals have placed former Detroit Red Wings defenseman @Dennis Cholowski on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Tuesday.
Cholowski, 23, was drafted by Detroit in the first round (20th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He spent five seasons in the Red Wings organization before being selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 Expansion Draft.
In early October 2021, before he ever played a game with the team, the Kraken placed Cholowski on waivers; the Capitals claimed him the following day. Cholowski has appeared in seven games with the Capitals this season, recording a single assist.
Over parts of three seasons with the Red Wings, Cholowski appeared in 104 games and recorded 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists). The 6’2″, 197-lb left-handed defenseman spent the 2018–19 campaign as a regular with the team, scoring 16 points in 52 games, before seeing his role gradually diminish over the following two seasons.
Cholowski is signed through the end of the 2021–22 season on a one-year, two-way deal worth $900,000 in the NHL.
