The Wings returned from the All-Star break with a home game against the San Jose Sharks. Petr Mrazek got the start in net and stopped 30 shots in a 3-2 shootout victory for the Red Wings.

THE RUNDOWN

The game went scoreless through the first two periods. The first goal came at 6:48 of the 3rd period as Trevor Daley put his offensive prowess to use.
It was Daley’s fourth of the season and it came in his first game back after missing time with an injury.
San Jose fired back though, tying the game with a mere five minutes left.
The shot came from Kevin Labanc and it was his 6th of the season. Brendan Dillon and Thomas Hertl assisted on it.
Nobody was able to end the game in regulation, so it was off to overtime. 3-on-3 was fruitless and the shootout went fourteen rounds before a winner was scored by Justin Abdelkader.
Special shoutout to Tomas Tatar who scored an amazing goal, too.

THE STATS

alt
This was a pretty good game for Detroit against a decent San Jose team. It’s also worth noting that the Wings got a total of 41 shots off, which is far and away better than what their average shots per game is. If they continue to play like that, they will collect more W’s.

MOTOR CITY MVP

Tonight’s Motor City MVP is Petr Mrazek who recorded his third win in five games. Mrazek as re-found his swagger and confidence as of late and has been stellar for the Wings in net.

COMING UP

Detroit has a few days off before visiting the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. Puck drop is at 7:00 P.M. ET and, as always, Brock Seguin will have your pre-game report early in the afternoon.
