Tonight, the Wings hosted the red hot Pittsburgh Penguins, now with extra Sidney Crosby, and took them to task. After a strong first period, the Red Wings actually took a second period lead, before giving up a power play goal in the third. The game required overtime, where Luke Glendening took a bad penalty, and Crosby himself scored the game winning goal.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Wings actually played a pretty decent game tonight. There were stretches of being the worst team in the league, but overall looked good about a strong Pens team.
- Filip Zadina scored his 6th goal of the season on a power play shot. The screen was set up beautifully by Givani Smith. I was wrong, by the way, the goal has been assigned to Zadina:
- Dylan Larkin had a scary second period. He got dummied around a bit along the boards, went to the dressing room, came back and played a shift, went back to the dressing room, and came back out and finished the game. He didn’t quite look the same, though. Wouldn’t surprise me if he left the ice injured tonight.
- After an overall terrible season so far, Jimmy Howard had a fantastic game tonight, turning away 35 shots and only allowing goals on the penalty kill. He had a few highlight reel saves too.
