WINGS POST-GAME: RED WINGS WIN!
By Nick Seguin
5 years agoIT HAPPENED YOU GUYS! IT FINALLY HAPPENED!
For the first time in the 2018-19 season, the Detroit Red Wings have won a game. They beat the Florida Panthers in overtime by a score of 4-3.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- Detroit got off to a slow start as they trailed by two at the end of the first period. Michael Rasmussen scored his first NHL goal, but it was disallowed on a goaltender interference call.
- The power play was on fire tonight as they converted twice within ten seconds. The first was on a 5-on-3 and the second was on the ensuing 5-on-4.
- Dennis Cholowski scored his 2nd of the season and added an assist in the first multi-point game of his career. They were the 4th and 5th points of his NHL career, making him a top-5 point-getter on the Wings.
- Dylan Larkin contributed his 4th goal of the season on a nice tic-tac-toe play with Gustav Nyquist and Darren Helm.
- The Wings gave up a late 3rd period goal to Mike Hoffman which sent the game to overtime. Nyquist capped the game with his breakaway goal a little more than halfway through the frame. Larkin got the only assist.
FINAL THOUGHT
It’s too bad that Rasmussen’s goal was called back, but getting the W for the team was far more important. They really needed to get that monkey off their back so they can start to have a productive season. There’s still lots to do on an individual level for these players, but don’t expect a playoff push.
