Against a team thrust into chaos with the firing of their coach, the Red Wings looked to rebound from their latest loss to the New York Islanders. Unbeknownst to them, chaos breeds creativity and the Flyers found a way to log a win.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jimmy Howard left the warm-up with a back injury, so, despite being announced as the starter, he had sit this game out while Jonathan Bernier took the reins. The Wings also dressed an emergency goaltender just in case.
  • The Flyers had their own goaltending woes and had to call up Carter Hart to make his NHL debut.
  • Dennis Cholowski scored his sixth goal of the season off a beautiful pass from Gustav Nyquist on the power play.
  • The Red Wings have allowed the third most shots against per game in the league. That was on full display tonight as they allowed 33 shots against.
  • Carter Hart logged the first win of his NHL career in the 3-2 victory.

FINAL THOUGHT

Bernier hasn’t looked great lately, but it’s hard to blame the goaltending when this team allows so many shots against without putting up the supporting offense. When it comes to effort, the Red Wings are always too little too late. When it comes to goals, they are scoring some dirty ones, but it’s far from controlling the play. December has not been kind to Detroit and they need to find a way to get back into the ‘W’ column soon.
Oh, and that was a terrible goaltender interference challenge by Blashill.
