For the second time in four days, the Red Wings faced the Nashville Predators. This time, the Wings faced the Preds at Little Caesars Arena. For the first time since 2013, they lost.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Less than a day removed from the Wings trading one half of their goalie tandem, the Predators were scoring goals. Scott Hartnell scored less than five minutes into the first period.
The Wings are traditionally pretty good at giving the Predators a hard time, but the Preds were out-playing them in the first period. They added one more goal about halfway through the first period, courtesy of Kyle Turris, to take a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, Detroit started to claw their way back as they out-shot Nashville 2-to-1. Andreas Athanasiou finally broke his scoring drought with a classic AA goal.
Nashville dialed up the third period a bit. At the beginning, it was enough for Viktor Arvidsson to give them an insurance goal.
Detroit wasn’t ready to give up, though. Again, they out-shot the Preds 2-to-1 in this period and, eventually, scored again to bring the Wings within one.
It was a dirty goal, but it counted in the end. Unfortunately, Detroit couldn’t add any more to that and the Predators ended this one with a 3-2 victory.

THE STATS

The Wings actually played a fantastic game tonight as they kept pace with the Predators. Especially in the third period, a time in the game when they normally collapse, the Wings kept their strength and put the Preds on their toes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and the Preds took this one home. For those bought into #TankNation, this was a positive result.

MOTOR CITY MVP

Tonight’s Motor City MVP is Andreas Athanasiou for getting himself back on the scoreboard.

NEXT UP
