Hockey can be a funny game. The highs and lows come in waves. Bad luck only lasts so long. So does the good. Through their seven game losing streak to open the season, the Red Wings had a PDO of 93.06. That wasn’t going to last forever. And it didn’t. Since then, the Wings have gone 4-2-0 and rocked a PDO of 100.46. That’s much more normal.
Tonight, the Wings put their three game win streak on the line when they faceoff against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers at Little Caesars Arena.

Only one change to the roster today as Danny DeKeyser is ready to play. Jonathan Ericsson is going to come out with a day-to-day injury. Again.
Up front, Frans Nielsen is nearing a return, but he’s not there yet. Andreas Athanasiou and Thomas Vanek aren’t even skating yet, so they’re out this weekend.
Since their first win on October 20th, Dylan Larkin continues to lead the offensive charge with three goals and nine points. Dennis Cholowski and Gustav Nyquist are following it up with one goal and five points each. Justin Abdelkader’s scored twice, as has Michael Rasmussen. All of these players are looking to build on this foundation tonight against the Oilers.

The offense on this team really only comes from three players. Of course, there’s Connor McDavid (9 G, 10A) and he’s supported by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (3 G, 11A) and Leon Draisaitl (7G, 7A) who, after a slow start to his season, finally got it going.
Their bottom-6 continues to underwhelm, as does their D-corps. Adam Larsson and Oscar Klefbom highlight a top-4 that has been able to keep their opponents at bay so far, but will need to be much better down the stretch.

BETWEEN THE PIPES

While neither of these goalies have been confirmed yet, Detroit tends to lean on Jimmy Howard after a day’s rest and Calm Talbot is the clear starter in Edmonton.
Along with the rest of his team, Howard has made improvements as of late, posting two wins in his last two games with a combined 65 saves.
Talbot has played in 10 this season, going 5-4-1. He’s posted a .904 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average. Despite the Oilers’ positive win percentage, they let in a lot of goals. It’s a good chance for Detroit to build on their hot offense as of late.
