Well, the day has finally arrived. The Wings will skate for the last time on the ice of Joe Louis Arena in their final game of the season against the New Jersey Devils. The game is meaningless to the standings, but it will go down in history. Both teams have found themselves at the bottom of the standings this year, but they’ve had their fair share of hard fought battles in the past on the ice of Joe Louis Arena, including two games in the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals. But that’s in the past, and there will be time for remembrance and celebration later. For now, they’ve got a game to play.
In their two other match-ups this season, the Wings have both won and lost against the Devils. Tonight, they look to bid adieu to the Joe with one final Red Wings ‘W’.

Signs are pointing the Jeff Blashill sticking with his lines from yesterday. Newcomer Matt Lorito had an admirable start in his first game yesterday, posting two shots on net and an assist on Dylan Larkin’s goal. Larkin, for his part, recorded two shots, three hits, and went 50% in the faceoff circle. He’s really come around this season and is rounding out as a centreman. The top line is also remaining intact as Tatar, Zetterberg, and Nyquist have really been clicking together recently.
On the blueline, Nick Jensen finishes his exciting rookie season on the top pairing with Danny DeKeyser. They’ll look to use his speed to really get a jump on the breakout. Robbie Russo and Xavier Ouellet continue to play well together as well. Ouellet has been using his strength in the corners as of late and pushing opponent’s around.

THE DEVILS

Kyle Palmieri leads this team in goals with a total of 26, but he’s tied in points with Taylor Hall. These two lead a top-6 offense that doesn’t necessarily strike one with fear. Adam Henrique and Travis Zajac both cracked 40 points and Mike Cammaleri tallied up 30 for himself. On the backend, they are lead by veterans Andy Greene and Ben Lovejoy. It’s a roster that the Red Wings should be able to take advantage of.

BETWEEN THE PIPES

Jimmy Howard vs Cory Schneider
Jimmy Howard gets the nod on this historic night. Since returning from injury on March 10, Howard has gone 4-4-0 and posted a .911 SV%, which is a long way from the fantastic numbers he was putting up earlier this season. In his last outing against Ottawa, Howard let in 2 goals (one of which was a little flukey, the other he should have had) on 24 shots.
Cory Schneider has had a tough year. In 59 games this year, he’s posted a 20-26-11 record and a .909 SV%, which is a long way from his career average SV% of .922. In his last outing, Schneider took a beating from the Pittsburgh Penguins as Sid and his crew posted seven goals against him on 28 shots. Schneider is looking to bounce back tonight for a strong finish to his season.

HOW TO WATCH

Coverage on Fox Sports Detroit starts at 2:00 PM as they celebrate the long, rich history of Joe Louis Arena. There will be a red carpet ceremony for current and former players as they arrive to the game, interviews, and lots of trips down memory lane. Puck drop is at 5:00 PM and after the game, Ken Daniels will be hosting a Q&A session on the surface of the ice with current and former players. I would expect the festivities to end around 9:00PM tonight.
Sportsnet 1 is also covering the game in Canada and the MSG+ 2 has it for the New York area. If you are not around a TV all afternoon and evening, 97.1 The Ticket will be providing radio coverage.
