The Wings Nation Top 20 Prospects: #6 Martin Frk

F, R, K. Just three letters in a last name so complex, yet so simple at the same time. LBJ? DRW? USA? However you slice it, three letter acronyms are usually pretty cool. F, R, K. It’s easy to spell, fun to pronounce and still makes something special about this Wings prospect. It’s a rarity in North America and something that’s pretty sweet, honestly. Anyway, that’s enough hullabaloo about a surname. What can Frk actually do on the ice?

Go FRK! See, there it is again! What a cool name!

Frk first really gained exposure onto the international stage with one of the Greatest Junior Hockey Teams of All Time™, the 2012-13 Halifax Mooseheads. Having already been drafted by the Wings the year prior, Frk put up 84 points in 56 games, and 33 points in 17 games in the playoffs, alongside Nathan Mackinnon and Jonathan Drouin. Destined for stardom, was Frk, for sure.

Three years later, he’s played a plethora of games in the ECHL and the AHL and none in the NHL. He turns 23 on October 5th…

Honestly, I’m not sure if FRK ending up this high on the Wings prospect ranking list is an indictment of the franchise’s prospect pool, or if FRK really is going to translate his junior stats to the NHL level. In a team with a lot of forwards signed already to NHL contracts, I’m not really sure how Frk fits in unless he steps his game up or there is a significant number of injuries. That, or Ken Holland thinks he’s finally been developed enough.
