A few weeks back we covered the story of
Gordie Howe’s statue that will soon be erected in Saskatoon.
They announced on that day that they were going to hold plenty of other events that day to honor “Mr. Hockey”, one of those ways will be with a jersey honoring the late Red Wing. What do you think of the jersey (seen above)?
Saskatoon Blades president Steve Hogle made contact with the Howes recently, making contact with them and asking what they thought about a night honoring Gordie.
Hogle wasn’t ready for such an enthusiastic response. Here is Hogle courtesy of the Saskatoon Star:
“(Marty) casually mentions it was one of Gordie’s last wishes, to have his and Colleen’s (Gordie’s wife) ashes at the statue. And I was like Oh. My. Goodness.”
That statue is going to be the final resting place for Howe. A proper way to memorialize the legend.
The decision for the night to move forward was then made very easy. Who doesn’t want to celebrate the life of “Mr. Hockey”?
The number 9 will be adorned all through out the Sasktel Centre and the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game with the money raised benefiting the Gordie Howe Fund for Alzheimer’s Research according to the Saskatoon Blades press release.
What a beautiful night, it should make for an absolutely breath taking ceremony.
