There was a good back and forth online today between Arthur Staple and Darren Dreger talking about a potential Travis Hamonic deal on the table.
“Dregs” responded with just the facts, putting our own Detroit Red Wings into the mix…
What would the Wings give up?
Ideally, anything but one of their three young forwards in Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou or Anthony Mantha, or Mike Green.  He’d immediately become likely one of the best defencemen on the team, as tough as that sounds to hear, and could help Detroit keep some pucks out of their net.
At the same time, I don’t really know if he’s a sensible fit for a team that will need a miracle to make the playoffs, already has a whole bunch of dudes locked in for longer than can afford and probably won’t really be good by the time Hamonic’s contract expires and he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Hamonic is currently signed for 3 more seasons at a cap hit of $3,857,143, which would somehow make him Detroit’s fifth highest paid defenceman. Ken Holland is bad, tbh.
More to come here at Wings Nation dot com as the situation unfolds, to see if we’ll get Hammy in a Wings’ uniform next season.
