Red Wings Year In Review: Drew Miller

As far as veterans engrained into Red Wings culture, Drew Miller seems to be at the very top of the list. He has played various roles over the years with this team and has been the ultimate “yes” man for the organization. His contract is up this off season and many are wondering whether or not he will be brought back next year. Does he deserve to have his contract extended?

Hero Chart

The chart speaks for itself. He doesn’t do anything that is going to help this hockey team win. He is pretty much in the negative on all fronts and his teammates play better without him. He is advertised as a shutdown winger, yet he doesn’t have any qualities of one. How does he continue to get NHL work?

Crunching Numbers

Boxcars:

Two points this year and has been on a downward slope since his career high year in 2011-12. He isn’t providing any depth scoring and he is a possession blackhole according to the HERO Chart. Maybe we aren’t seeing the redeemable part of his game?

Welp. That is pretty much what we expected. That is one of the worst relative percentages in the league. It isn’t even close anymore.
Goal-Based:

Should I even comment on this one. Yikes. Also very terrible.
Scoring Chances:

Not great. It isn’t a good sign when you have no redeemable categories in our year in review. Any intangibles he brings to the team are not worth signing him.

2016-17 Predictions

It has been rumored that GM Ken Holland is wanting to re-sign Drew Miller. Which in all honesty may be the worst decision he can make this off season. Giving him any money at all to play hockey in the NHL is a big, big mistake. If you would like to pay him to be a cheerleader of some sort, sign him to a role in the front office and not put him on the ice.

Conclusion

Drew Miller shouldn’t be playing in the league anymore. He is no longer a good player. In no way does he resemble an NHL player at this point in time. He has had good seasons in the past but his time has unfortunately ended.
Grade: F
He did nothing while healthy this year and has no business being on the Red Wings. He has served his purpose with the team and should move on to another role.
