Seriously, that’s the dude’s name.
Could you get a more Detroit Red Wings name?
With the 38th overall pick, the Detroit Red Wings decided to become an instant meme and draft a guy named Gustav Lindstrom, combining one of their current players with well, arguably the greatest defenceman of all time.
Lindstrom comes from Almtuna in Sweden in the Swedish Allsvenskan, the second highest league in Sweden.
In 48 games, he picked up 2 goals and 7 assists. He was unranked in the Nation Network top 100 rankings.
There’s very little available about him online. This feels more like a 1995 pick than a 2017 pick.
Via FutureConsiderations.com:
He sees passing lanes and open ice very well when going back to retrieve the puck and displays a strong ability to play a long accurate outlet pass, transitioning from defense to offense in a split second.
Via EliteProspects he was ranked:
Yeah, I don’t want to rag on the dude a lot because I don’t know tons about him, but it doesn’t seem like the kind of guy you need to take that high in the draft. I honestly wonder if they did it for name value, which doesn’t make sense because it’s not even the same last name.
