Red Wings release preseason schedule

As far as news stories go, this is one of the least fun to write. Preseason games don’t mean anything, yet we get excited for them like a normal game. You pay the same amount of money for tickets and you pay the same amount of money for beer too. Nonetheless, the preseason schedule has been released and it is your standard fare.
We should be excited, it is the last season in the Joe. It’ll be the last set of preseason games to happen at Joe Louis Arena. Be a part of history! Like Mr. Khan said in his tweet, it truly is the usual suspects.
Three games of the preseason will be in direct conflict with the World Cup of Hockey, an interesting wrinkle to the already odd preseason regiment teams seem to have. Only a handful of Red Wings players were named to the teams, but it does make you wonder if other players can make an impression before those players return. Anthony Mantha should be eagerly awaiting the start of the season, no Abdelkader and no Larkin? This a golden opportunity for the young forward.
Only one game sticks out to me and that is the last game against the Leafs. Presumably, both teams will put out full strength teams and see how they match up. A young Leafs team, coached by Mike Babcock will want to make their mark against Blashill and Co. It is way too early to say that this game will be used as a litmus test for both teams but don’t be surprised if it isn’t your standard preseason game.
Save the date, Red Wings fans.
