Red Wings prospect Dennis Cholowski signs player agreement with Prince George Cougars of the WHL

6 years agoProspect news is coming in droves as the season approaches. This time, the recently signed Dennis Cholowski is heading to the WHL.
Having played for St. Cloud State this past season, Cholowski signed an entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings ending his NCAA eligibility. Given his age, junior hockey was always an attractive route.
In 36 games last season for St. Cloud, Cholowski scored one goal, helped with 11 assists for a total of 12 points. Cholowski was also selected to Canada’s World Junior showcase this summer. He was one of 43 players invited to the showcase.
Cougars general manager Todd Harkins spoke about Cholowski via a team press release:
“Ever since we drafted Dennis back in 2013, we’ve kept a close eye on his development and have been in regular communication with his family, his agency and the Detroit Red Wings. To now have him signed and committed to the Prince George Cougars for 2016-17 is very exciting for our franchise. Dennis is a world-class player who we expect will log major minutes for us in all situations and our goal is to help further develop his game so that he’s ready to take the ice for the Detroit Red Wings as soon as possible.”
As the Red Wings continue to try and develop young talent, Cholowski getting more seasoning will be an important part of his growth.
