Red Wings announce jersey number changes for upcoming season

Today, the Red Wings announced a plethora of jersey numbers for the upcoming season: five, in fact.
After an eventful offseason, the Wings announced on their Twitter account the digits for their three UFA signings, plus two numbers re-assigned of existing roster players.

A bit about each number’s history with the Wings:

#4: most recently worn by Jakub Kindl this past season.
It’s interesting to see a forward wear #4 in the modern NHL. The only one to do so in 2015-16 was former Edmonton Oiler Taylor Hall, who will wear #9 this upcoming year after being traded to New Jersey.
#29: most recently worn by Landon Ferraro this past season.
#53: only worn by Adam Almqvist in 2014.
#51: only worn by Valtterri Filppula, from 2011-13
#62: never been worn before
If you’re buying jerseys for any of these players though… the only safe bet might be Nielsen. All of the other four are major question marks coming into this season and moving forward with the Wings.
