Today, the NHL released every team’s season opener for the 2018-19 NHL season. Little Caesars Arena will open its doors on the 2018-19 season on Thursday, October 4th when the Red Wings host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Far from an Original 6 rival, the Blue Jackets are conveniently a mere 200 miles (or 3 hours) down the road from Detroit. The match-up will surely draw fans from Columbus down to help pack the seats in Little Caesars Arena.
The Wings went 0-3-0 against the Blue Jackets last year, losing the only game they played at LCA in a shootout. Sergei Bobrovsky, the likely starter on opening night, posted a .913 save percentage against the Wings last season and Artemi Panarin scored three times.
The Blue Jackets had a disappointing outing in this year’s playoffs, so they’ll be coming out the gate hard in 2018-19. It should make for a good game.
Stay tuned for more details. The full schedule will be released on Thursday, June 21st.
