NHL 2016 Draft Radar: Vitaly Abramov

Vitaly (or Vitali) Abramov slots into the ranking as a European player ranked among 29th amongst North American skaters by NHL Central scouting.
Playing in the QMJHL for the Gatineau Olympiques, Abramov slots in anywhere between a late first rounder to a third round pick. If the Wings have the chance to select Abramov, he could easily be a pick to look back on in a few years wondering how he didn’t go higher.
The Stats
93 points in your draft year is never nothing to shy away from, even if it is in the offense-heavy QMJHL. And look at those other stats wherever he’s played- this guy can put the puck in the net, for sure.
The Eye Test
Abramov is a small player with a big game. With a name that might be a bit more well known- Alex DeBrincat – being compared to Abramov as they’re both on the shorter side, but on the upper side of their production ability in their draft class. Abramov actually finished 4th in the draft amongst CHL players in total points- so he might be a prime candidate for a sleeper pick.
From Future Considerations:
“The Russian import is a constant threat offensively and makes some impressive plays due to his high skill level. An explosive, well-timed speed burst or change of pace and shifty agility in his feet as well as creative hands make him a slippery forward to check. A skilled playmaker making seeing-eye passes through the tightest of lanes and in perfect time to his teammates. Will shoot the puck when the opportunity presents itself and usually hits his mark when he does but is a natural playmaker first and foremost. Extremely dynamic top line NHL potential.”
Does he fit in with the Red Wings?
Like I said, he could easily be a sleeper pick as he’s overlooked due to his size by many scouts. With the 46th pick, if he’s on the board, he’s a guy worth taking a chance on or even trading up a few spots for.
