NHL 2016 Draft Radar: Tyson Jost

Tyson Jost. Not to be confused with TSN analyst Travis Yost. Ranked in the top 10 in some rankings, if he falls, he has to be a piece the Wings look at grabbing with their first round pick. While a smart team might snag him up before it gets to the Wings draft choice, he’s still a bit of a wildcard that teams might (wrongly) shy away from by not scouting the BCHL as heavily.
 The Stats
Say what you want about the league he plays in. Say a lot more about those numbers. He’s a dynamic playmaker who’s able to perform as one of the best players in a junior league in his draft season.
And oh, there’s also this:
Also… there’s this:
Yeah, this guy is pretty good.

The Eye Test

If you’re not convinced by his stats, his highlight tape should convince you that this kid can play. A level ahead of pretty much all of the CJHL, he’s got quite the offensive package.
And though he’s got a scholarship offer to the University of North Dakota for next season,  he had a heck of a quote to Sportsnet last week:
“My mom won’t like me for saying this, but school kind of is second,” he said.
What a mindset! So much commitment!

Does He Fit with the Red Wings?

If Jost is still on the board when the Wings are selecting in the first round, it’s a no-brainer, as long as there’s not an even more obvious option who slipped down. He probably won’t be available when the Wings pick at 16… but if he is, he’s a piece the Wings really have to pounce on.
