Luke Glendening heading home from World Championship

First reported by USA Hockey, it looks like the Red Wings’ own Luke Glendening won’t be participating in the World Championships in Helsinki Finland.
This was the first time that Glendening was representing the USA in international competition, as many can attest to, playing for one’s country is a huge honor. This has to be a serious blow for him. Luckily for other Red Wings fans supporting team USA, they can keep an eye out for Dylan Larkin, who will surely dazzle on the international ice.
The inclusion of Glendening in the first place was a bit of a puzzling selection in my opinion. His year wasn’t that great and he seemed to tail off a bit at the end.
Here is what I said in my year in review on Glendening
“A team like the Red Wings can’t miss on these type of position players. He will admirably play on this team until his contract is up but I am not sure he warrants an extension after the fact. Glendening isn’t a solution to any of the Red Wings problems.”
While I was harsh about Glendening and his year, I will acknowledge that the group that team USA is taking over to Helsinki is more of a developmental club. They are going to be facing an uphill battle against certain teams especially clubs like Russia and Canada.
Who knows what the true value of something like this would actually be to Glendening, unfortunately for him and Red Wings fans, we won’t get the opportunity to find out.
