The Grand Rapids Griffins got busy this weekend as they signed forward Jordan Topping to a one year contract.
Topping is a 21-year-old undrafted left winger. He spent the last four years as a member of the Tri-City Americans in the WHL with future Red Wing Michael Rasmussen.
Last year, Topping scored 38 goals and 80 points in 72 games, which was good for 1st on the team in goals and 2nd on the team in points production. He added 14 points in 14 playoff games.
For the last three years, Topping was an assistant captain on the team. It’s clear that the veteran was not brought in with any intention of being a Red Wing. He’ll add depth and leadership to the Griffins core as they fight for another Calder Cup this year.
Don’t expect to see him with his former teammate as Rasmussen is all but a lock for the big club.
