Frans Nielsen named to All-Star game

Today in slightly unexpected news, Frans Nielsen was named to his first career all-star game/3-on-3 tournament.

With 22 points this season, Nielsen sits third on the Wings in scoring.

While Nielsen has had a solid start to the year, it’s still a bit of a curious option.

Jimmy Howard obviously can’t make the roster due to his injury, but perhaps Henrik Zetterberg or Thomas Vanek (both ahead of Nielsen in team scoring). Maybe he gets by on “new kid on the block syndrome”? Whatever the case, it’s certainly not been a bad year for the free-agent signing Dane. 

The game(s) get underway in Los Angeles on Jan 29. Either way, let’s laud Frans for his solid two-way play this year.
