Ex-Senators Head Coach Dave Cameron interviewed for Wings assistant job

7 years agoI do not know whether you or I will be interviewed by the Red Wings for the assistant coach position, but it seems likely with each passing day. It is being reported that ex-Senators head coach Dave Cameron is interviewing for the assistant coach position. Does he have the credentials to be hired by the Wings?
First reported by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, it is believed that the interview has already taken place, once again showing that the Red Wings are in no hurry to fill this role.
This was what Garrioch had to say in his own words about the tango between the two sides:
“While there are no guarantees, and it isn’t known where he stands, the former Ottawa Senators coach was given permission to speak with the Detroit Red Wings about an assistant’s job with Jeff Blashill and may have met with them not long after returning from the world championship.”
Right around the time the Wings were interviewing former Blue Jackets head coach, Todd Richards. Both are uninspired choices in my opinion, neither are the type of hires that jump off the page. They both seem like potential hires that could replace Blashill in an interim scenario if they aren’t happy with the way the season is going. That shows very little confidence in your current head coach and is short sighted for a team that has always been so ahead of the curve.
Sure, hiring Dave Cameron would be fine. It would just be another coach that would be used as a placeholder. Cameron did an admirable job on a moderately talented Senators team, it just seems like the Red Wings are looking at retreads rather than the next big thing.
