Ben Street was called up on an emergency basis already and sent back down before he could make his season debut. It looks like he is getting another chance to make an impression as an injury may force him into the lineup.
We had written before that Street is an interesting person to call up considering some of the young players that are on the Griffins. Street isn’t a player to scoff at though, he performs at a good clip at the AHL level. He falls just short of the point per game threshold and has never really produced at the NHL level in his time with the Flames and Avalanche.
The season is coming to a close and that means more and more players should be getting looks. Martin Frk has been an inconsistent player but why isn’t he getting more looks with the Wings, he still has a ceiling to reach, Street does not. Similarly, Evgeny Svechnikov is having a good season in the AHL, why not reward him?
It reeks of old school thinking but if they are really trying to preserve the tank this seems like a good move. Too many mixed signals to really believe they are trying to go for the tank. In an emergency situation with not much to lose this isn’t too important. It just raises questions that shouldn’t have to be asked.
The Wings season has been over for a while but the narratives won’t die. This is one of the reasons why some are still unsure of the direction of this team. What exactly are they going for?
