The Red Wings were able to earn just their second win of the season tonight at home against the Dallas Stars. But don’t worry, this win didn’t gain them any footage in the standings – they still sit at dead last in the entire league.
It was not a conquering win by the Wings, but a slow build into a game that they found some success in. A lot of things had to go right and frankly, they did. Wings win 4-2.

Worth Mentioning

  • The Wings did not completely take over the game, but neither did the Stars at any point. Throughout the first two periods, the Stars led the shots 21-14 but the Wings led the way 14-13 when it came to scoring chances.
  • This whole game was full of lucky breaks for the Red Wings. Especially seen here on Bertuzzi’s goal that put the Wings up 2-1 in the middle of the 2nd period. Kronwall dumps it in and the puck takes a lucky bounce to perfectly setup this goal.
  • In the third period is where the Wings really came out of their shell. Completely dominating the game with 77% of the scoring chances at even-strength in the final 20 minutes.
  • You know the game is a weird one when Jonathan Ericsson scores a goal.
  • Only two defenceman – Cholowski and Jensen – left the game without a point.
  • Dylan Larkin had two assists and led the team in points after the game.
  • Andreas Athanasiou had the least amount of time-on-ice among the Wings with only 12:21. Mike Green led with 24:01.
  • Justin Abdelkader actually had a decent game and an empty-net goal to celebrate. He led the team in 5v5 CF% with 73.33. Rasmussen and De La Rose followed Abdelkader in CF% at 5v5.

Final Thoughts

It was good to eventually see a win after that stretch of games we all experienced. Whether you are all-in for the tank or you want to see the Wings win, this was a game that served both needs. The Wings are still at the bottom of the league and they were able to beat one of the top offensive teams in the league.
Now we all get to go home and enjoy some damn curly fries!
