After he played his ninth game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, Filip Zadina has been assigned to the AHL.
The move is to prevent Zadina playing 10 NHL games and therefore burn a year of his entry-level contract. Sliding the first year of his rookie deal to the 2019-20 regular season.
In his nine games with the Red Wings, Zadina scored one goal and assisted on two, averaging just 15:23 time-on-ice. His shot attempt numbers and other underlying stats did not look highly on the Czech winger, but there is always room to grow for such a young player.
At just 19-years-old in the AHL with the Griffins, he has scored a total of 15 goals and netted 16 assists in 45 games. He will continue to help the Griffins score some goals and make a run in the playoffs.
The Griffins currently sit second in the Central division, just three points behind the division-leading Chicago Wolves. They play tonight against the Rockford Ice Hogs, but Zadina will most likely make his return to AHL action on Saturday night against the Milwaukee Admirals.
