The Wings were in Boston to play an injury-plagued Bruin roster. Last time Coreau played Boston, he was pulled for allowing 3 goals in just over 2 minutes.
It didn’t take long for history to repeat itself.

The Rundown

Coreau let in 2 goals in the first minute to Krug and DeBrusk.
After a slashing call to new-Bruin Tommy Wingels, Nielsen put one past Khudobin.
With 3 goals in the opening 2:16, I thought this game had potential to be like the abysmal game we played against the Habs earlier this season.
It didn’t take long for AA to set up a streaking Green to tie it up at 2.
Nick Jensen helping the tank with a holding call that allows Krug to get the Bruins ahead again.
On a brighter note, check out this tic-tac-toe play by the Wings!
Witkowski takes a Witkowski-like cross-checking penalty and Marchand scores a sharp angle goal on the power play. This was it for Mrazek and Howard came in to the game.
Mantha shows off his net-front presence and his reach to make 4-3,
but it doesn’t take long for Marchand to bank one in off of Howard.
Mantha fights off Chara and gets in alone to beat Khudobin.
Here are both of Mantha’s goals;
Kuraly called for tripping and Frk gets one past Khudobin on a reflection.
This game went to OT and Marchand with the winner to complete his hat trick and his 11th overtime goal.

The Stats

Marchand, Pastrnak, and Krug had 12 points between them this game. When they’re on, they’re tough to beat.
The shots finished as Detroit – 35 and Boston – 37.
Neither Coreau or Khudobin had a night to remember.

Motor City MVP

Anthony Mantha deserves the MVP. Although I’d like to acknowledge Larkin had 8 shots on goal, Mantha had his first 4-point night (2 goals & 2 assists) to keep the Wings competitive.

Next Up

It’s less than ideal the Wings got a point on a night Montreal lost. Detroit hosts Vegas on Thursday for the Golden Knights’ first game at LCA. You can catch this game on FSD and Brock Seguin will prepare you for it!
