What a time to be alive as a fan of Detroit sports! The losing streak continues to make history tonight – 9 straight losses for the Wings and only one of those were in overtime.

Just stop paying attention to the games already and focus on reading every single prospect writeup you can get your hands on. Every. Single. One.

After trading powerplay opportunities that both came up short, the Ducks strike first and early.

Nick Ritchie with the face of someone you just told that the bar is out of beer – capitalizes off a loose rebound and the Ducks are up 1-0.

Following another miserable powerplay attempt by the Wings, Luke Witkowski and tonight’s first goalscorer, Nick Ritchie decided to drop the gloves and express some emotion.

Full of short jabs from each other’s off hands attached to the sweaters, the bout was not a bad one. No clear, hard blows but clean and it’s what Witkowski is there to do.

Some sustained offensive pressure from the Wings (for once), and poor positioning from young American netminder John Gibson, led to a wide-open net that Mike Green took advantage of. Tie game 1-1.

A little bit of everything in that opening period – the Wings leading the shot battle 11-9 and the shot attempt battle 16-14.

As is tradition, the Red Wings start a period on the penalty kill – the Ducks did not score on the man advantage, but shortly after of course.

A messy pile-up of Wings defenceman on top of Howard, the puck somehow got loose and right to the stick of Derek Grant. The goal was reviewed, but eventually allowed. 2-1 Ducks.

That lead did not last long. After a powerplay that did not bring any real chances, the Wings did get a chance. As the Ducks player left the penalty box, the Wings had the puck in deep behind the goal line for a nice little play between Abdelkader and Nyquist. Abby made a cheeky backwards pass to Gustav, who was perfectly positioned in front of the net with the blade of his stick on the ice, ready to score. Tie game 2-2.

In the middle of the second period, UMBC beat Virginia…then Corey Perry scored.

Good things happen, then the worst thing happens.

A little tap-in goal for Perry from a slick play by Ryan Getzlaf in front of the net using his big Western Canada boy body. 3-2 Ducks.

I’m sure the good guys are a little frustrated and Abdelkader expresses that frustration through picking a fight with Corey Perry. What is with the Ducks’ goalscorers fighting minutes after?

The fight ended and Perry went back to the locker room like Abdelkader’s hairline backing away from his forehead.

These both teams were singlehandedly trying to bring up the fights-per-game number this season, I swear. Kesler and Mantha went at it just minutes before the second period concluded.

The chirps continued for minutes and minutes and minutes, before the game clock moved a second. End of the period was soon to follow. 3-2 Ducks after 40. Wings are being outshot 27-20 and out-attempted 45-37.

After the old school end to the second period, the 3rd period started the exact opposite – the Red Wings were good during the old school times.

Ryan Kesler scores with a dirty backhand and at 4-2, the game seems out of reach for the Wings.

After Kesler’s goal, the Ducks proceeded to dominate the game in every single way. So much offensive pressure and cycling continued for the Ducks and the Wings just could not get the puck off the stick of any player for the Ducks.

To finish off this game, the Wings got a powerplay opportunity and pulled Howard out of the net. Unsurprisingly, the 6v4 ended up being a game of Score-o for the Ducks, with ample of opportunities to send the puck into the empty net from their defensive zone. At least they had fun with this game.

The Wings always had to fight their way back in the shot attempts category. I am shocked that they even got to be level again after the Ducks completely destroyed them to start off the second period.

What else is there to say? The Ducks were just another team that helped the Wings in the pursuit of tanking.

The Motor City MVP for tonight’s game is Justin Abdelkader. I’ll actually be nice to the guy for once and say he played alright against the Ducks tonight. A killer assist on Nyquist’s goal and a surprising 5v5 CF% of 57.69.

I’ll just ignore the contract for now.

The Wings finish up their Western road trip in Colorado Sunday afternoon, facing the Avalanche at 3:00pm EST at the Pepsi Center.
