The Red Wings Trade Deadline Rumour Roundup!

Happy trade deadline day! Are you stuck at work on the most fun day of the season? I can’t say I am, so I’ve decided to prepare you for what to expect & not expect today!
Here are 5 of the most-talked about Red Wings leading into this year’s deadline:

Mike Green

Green is the most obvious trade candidate, no surprise here. As Craig Custance stated in his latest Athletic article, Green has signed off on a trade to both the Lightning and the Capitals. Tampa Bay is going to be pushing hard for Karlsson and McDonagh right up until the final minutes. Washington added both depth defenders Jerabek and Kempney this past week so they’re a less-likely suitor for Green.
Green is the Plan C to Karlsson and McDonagh for Tampa Bay, so I don’t see him being traded until close to 3pm Eastern today and the idea of a 1st round pick as a return is quickly diminishing.

Tomas Tatar

Tatar’s name has also been out there with Nashville being the most commonly talked about suitor. They could use another goal-scorer. However, he has 3 years left with a $5.3 million cap hit.
Tatar is less-likely to be moved, but it would be a good decision if a team coughs up a solid draft pick & prospect.

Xavier Oullet

Oullet is in his final 5 hours in Detroit. He isn’t going to be more than a bottom-pairing defenseman in the long term outlook in Detroit. Expect a 5th or 6th draft pick in return for him – nothing to scream about in your office cubicle, but draft picks are important nonetheless.

Luke Glendening

I’m sure everyone heard the rumours that the Leafs were in on Glendening. However, they added Plekanec yesterday morning and ultimately took themselves out of the Luke Glendening sweepstakes. Don’t expect him to be moved, but if he is, please high-five your co-workers.

Danny Dekeyser

Now this is the deal I expect all of you to get in trouble at work – or you’re not really a Wings fan. Dekeyser, sitting at a $5 million cap hit for the next 4 years, will be next-to-impossible to move. I’d imagine there would be salary retention on our side. Holland would have to work some Yzerman-like magic to get out from under DDK’s contract.
These are just the 5-most talked about players but Nyquist is another. Some people expect one of Nyquist or Tatar to be moved today. I’m all for this if the return is great. Anyway this is a light preparation for you all today and may the Wings win the day!
