Before the start of training camp each year, a collection of NHL teams head up to Traverse City, Mich. for a five day tournament featuring each team’s most prominent prospects. The Red Wings, of course, are a fixture each year, conducting their own training camp in the same arena shortly afterwards.
It took some time, but better late than never. Thursday afternoon the club announced their prospect roster for the Traverse City tournament. The big names include first rounders Filip Zadina, Joe Veleno, and Moritz Seider. Filip Larsson, Gustav Lindstrom, and Taro Hirose will also peak some interest. The full roster, which includes 10 draft picks, 8 signed free agents, and 9 free agent invites, can be seen below:

Two players that stick out to me are 2019 draft picks Gustav Berglund and Elmer Soderblom, who are both slated to play for Frolunda J20 in Sweden this season. It’s rare to see European players participate, with their seasons starting up very soon. Frolunda J20’s first game is on September 11th, while the prospect tournament ends on September 10th. I’d imagine they were granted approval to play, as New York Rangers prospect Karl Henriksson, who also plays for Frolunda J20, will also be in Traverse City.
Some additional information to know:
  • Other teams participating this year are the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs
  • The tournament runs from September 6th to the 10th
  • Games will be streamed on the official Red Wings accounts for Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, as well as on the official team website.
  • For those thinking about making the trip to Traverse City, tickets can be purchased for $10 per day at Centre Ice Arena or on centreice.org. For more information click here.
Following the camp, the majority of these prospects will return to their junior or pro teams outside the NHL. To follow every single Red Wings prospect for the season, see the post below:
