John Torchetti Will Not Return as Assistant Coach
As reported by Craig Custance of the Athletic, Red Wings Assistant Coach John Torchetti will not be returning to his position for the 2018-19 season.
Torchetti signed a two-year contract at the beginning of the 2016-17 season and the Red Wings have decided to not renew his contract for the upcoming season.
He was hired after a short stint as the interim Head Coach for the Minnesota Wild.
Torchetti has bounced around, from organization to organization, and has only been in a permanent head coaching position in the AHL, KHL and QMJHL.
He won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 – serving as an Assistant Coach from 2007-2010.
Since then, his position with the Red Wings has been his only permanent job in the NHL.
