The reigning Calder Cup Champions will not get past the first round this postseason – losing a crucial Game 5 in the best-of-5 first round against the Manitoba Moose on Monday night, the Griffins have been eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Always having to tie the series with a strong performance, the Griffins eventually fell to the Winnipeg Jets affiliate.
It came down to the all-deciding Game 5, but in the end the Griffins had to end their season with a 5-1 defeat to the Moose. The lone goal of the game coming from Matt Puempel on the powerplay, assisted by Filip Hronek and Ben Street. But that alone was unable to beat the Moose and the Griffins’ season ends on a sour note.
What looked to be a promising run featuring some young prospects in Evgeny Svechnikov, Joe Hicketts, Vili Saarijarvi, and the aforementioned Filip Hronek – ends too short and these players will look towards a productive summer to impress at Red Wings training camp come September.
