A stellar performance so far this season from Filip Hronek has led to him being named on the AHL All-Rookie team.
The AHL All-Rookie team is voted by coaches, players, and media in all 30 of the league’s cities.
In just 62 games so far this season, Hronek has 9 goals and 33 points – second among all rookie defenseman in both points and goals.
33 points are the fifth-most by a rookie defenseman on the Griffins in their history. He also becomes just the fourth Griffins blueliner to be named to the All-Rookie team – following in the footsteps of Brendan Smith, Ryan Sproul, and current teammate Robbie Russo.
His season has been a step above these familiar names though, as we have pointed out here just three weeks ago.
The Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic native, Hronek joined the Griffins at the end of the 2016-17 season after finishing his major junior career with the Ontario Hockey Leagues’ Saginaw Spirit and scored 1 goal and 2 points in 10 regular season contests. He helped the Griffins win the Calder Cup after making a couple of postseason appearances.
The 53rd-overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, has been instrumental in keeping the Griffin’s playoffs hopes alive. Using his skill on the powerplay and at even-strength, Hronek has shown true capabilities that led to every fan wanting the Wings to call him up for a game or two this season.
Don’t be shocked to see Hronek wearing the Winged Wheel at the 2018-19 season opener.
