All good things eventually become a little worse, as the Red Wings announced earlier today that young gun blueliner Dennis Cholowski will be out with an undisclosed injury day-to-day.
It’s not the end of the world, but Cholowski has been the best Red Wings defenceman early in this season. A surprise to many, but Cholowski was able to take that job and run away with it.
Cholowski scored his first NHL goal in his debut and followed up that performance with two assists in the game against the Kings on Sunday night. He has been valuable on both sides of the ice for the Wings in the first three games, so let’s see what the Wings can do without their hot defenceman.
As reported by Dana Wakiji of detroitredwings.com, it looks like Niklas Kronwall will be making his season debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night in Detroit. Trevor Daley suffered an injury early in Monday’s game against the Ducks, so he will likely be out for the upcoming game as well.
For tomorrow’s game, this is what the pairings might end up looking like. Kronwall easily replaces Cholowski within the six defencemen and Hronek is promoted up to the top-pairing alongside Danny DeKeyser. The DeKeyser-Hronek pairing has played a total of 23 minutes so far this season and has performed extremely well for this Wings blueline. 56.52 CF% at 5v5 and the Wings have outshot their opponents 14-8 while this pairing is on the ice.
Hopefully, the Wings will be able to survive the onslaught from the insanely hot Leafs forwards.
