The Red Wings have found their third goalie according to TSN’s Frank Seravalli. Calvin Pickard is set to sign a two-year deal with the Wings.
Pickard, 27, gives the Wings a well-traveled goalie to mentor first-year pro Filip Larsson in Grand Rapids. Pickard spent the 2018-19 season traveling around the league. He was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers from the Toronto Maple Leafs in October, then claimed again by the Arizona Coyotes in late November. He was mostly an insurance policy as the Flyers and Coyotes went through several goalies.

Pickard’s stats were all over the place last season as an NHL fill in but he also had to move three times if you count his brief stint with Tucson. Pickard has a long AHL track record and 104 NHL games played. Of note to the Red Wings is his most recent lengthy AHL stint with the Toronto Marlies in the 2017-18 season, in which he platooned with Leafs backup Garret Sparks in a Calder Cup winning season.
