Welcome back, old friend! The Red Wings today have announced the signing of center Valtteri Filppula to a two-year contract worth $3 million per season.
#RedWings two-year deal with Valtteri Filppula is for $3 million per season.
Filppula, 35, spent the first 8 seasons of his career with the Red Wings before being let go in favor of signing the now retired Stephen Weiss. As you know, Filppula won a Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2007-08 and will reunite with former teammates Niklas Kronwall, Jimmy Howard, Justin Abdelkader, Jonathan Ericsson, Danny DeKeyser, and Darren Helm.
Elite ProspectsFilppula has hovered around the 30 point mark for the past four seasons and should provide similar value to the Wings. Based on the players with guaranteed spots in the lineup it appears Filppula will slot in on the third line for the Wings whether that’s on center or the wing.
