Thoughts and Highlights

• Two injuries struck in the first period. Robby Fabbri took a puck to the groin area and had to leave for the remainder of the period. Fortunately, he would return to finish the game. On the other end of the spectrum, however, Madison Bowey left in the first period and did not return. Bowey had apparently been butt ended by a stick to the eye.
• The Detroit bench is going to have some cleaning up to do. They were assessed two too many men penalties, which simply can’t happen.
• The Blue Jackets opening goal (and game winner) came on a delayed penalty in the second period. After an extended sequence of hanging onto the puck, Zach Werenski finished the shift off with a goal. The Red Wings were unable to touch the puck for well over a minute. In hindsight that is looking like the deciding factor of the game.
• Andreas Athanaisou had one of his better games of the season. One particular play saw him maneuver around several defenders in a tight space to get a shot off.
• Gustav Lindstrom logged over 20 minutes of ice time. Quite the workload for a rookie playing in just his second NHL game. He nearly saw an eight minute jump from his debut in Buffalo. The early Bowey injury played a big role in the spike in minutes.
• Overall, it was a solid game for Lindstrom. He had one notable breakout sequence with Taro Hirose. The 21-year-old is showing great poise and no panic in his own zone.
