Thoughts and Highlights

• Starting off the night right, Frans Nielsen scored his second goal of the season, with the assist going to rookie winger Givani Smith. That’s the first career NHL point for Smith.

• Up until that point, however, the Wings looked rocky. The powerplay especially struggled, giving up a short-handed goal against. Filip Hronek had maybe the worst game of his NHL career to date. The 22-year-old defenseman was directly responsible for two of Montreal’s goals.
• The comeback got going early in the third period. Dylan Larkin made an exceptional defensive play to strip the puck away and keep the play alive. Tyler Bertuzzi found Robby Fabbri in the slot who sniped home his 11th goal of the season.

• The first line of Larkin, Bertuzzi, and Fabbri was unbelievable in this one. The trio set the tone for the thrilling third period and kept their foot on the gas.
• To tie the game, the Red Wings caught Montreal in a bad change. A strong passing game set up Frans Nielsen for a breakaway and he made no mistake, slipping his second goal of the night past Charlie Lindgren.

• To close out the game in perfect fashion, Filip Zadina netted the go-ahead goal with four minutes left. The unsung hero of the entire sequence, however, was Adam Erne, who made a great play to get Zadina the puck. A special moment for Erne, who had the birth of his first child earlier today.
