After an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of the Montreal Canadians on Tuesday night, Detroit came into the desert looking to earn more than just two points against the Arizona Coyotes. They were looking for their pride, which could only come with a more complete effort.
The Red Wings had their stretches of lackluster hockey, but showed they were a little more inspired compared to their last outing. Arizona at the end of the day was just the better team, winning 3-1.

Worth Mentioning

  • Filip Zadina had a very promising first shift. In just his third NHL game, he opened up the night with a golden opportunity to register his first career NHL goal.
  • The Coyotes struck first in this hockey game. Josh Archibald took a slap shot from along the boards and snuck one under the blocker of Jimmy Howard. I can guarantee you Howard will want that one back.
  • Arizona soon after scored again. A fluke goal made it 2-0, both of which were ones Howard should have had.
  • Detroit managed to get on the board in the dying seconds of a powerplay. Dylan Larkin redirected Niklas Kronwall’s point shot for his 27th goal of the season.
  • The second period remained relatively quiet. However, the third period is when the action get rolling again. After a spectacular diving save by Tyler Bertuzzi the goal horn went off, causing mas confusion, leading to a Coyotes goal seconds later. Bertuzzi was clearly frustrated, evident by him smashing his stick on the cross-bar.
  • Final Thoughts

The Wings have now loss their last 7 games. They are going to need a victory soon if they want to restore some of their confidence. Tonight’s performance certainly wasn’t one of their finest, but I can’t say it was one of their worst. Thats a positive, right?
