THE HIGHLIGHTS

• The Red Wings got on the scoreboard first during a power play, as Tyler Bertuzzi re-directed an Anthony Mantha pass a little past the halfway mark of the first period.

• Early in the second period, Filip Hronek gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead off a nice feed from Mantha.

• Kyle Okposo broke the scoreless drought for the Sabres, wristing a shot past Jimmy Howard six minutes into the second.
• Late in the second period, Marco Scandella tied the game at 2-2.
• The Sabres owned much of the second period, out-attempting the Red Wings 14-8 and outshooting them 9-5 at 5 on 5.
• At the 13:16 mark of the third period, Larkin outskated Jack Eichel and wristed a shot past Linus Ullmark to put the Red Wings up 3-2.

• Mantha had a terrific night, with three assists.
• Larkin scored his 30th goal of the season off a nice pass from Hronek to put the Red Wings up 4-2. It’s the first time in a decade a Red Wings player has scored 30 goals in a season.

• Casey Mittelstadt cut the Red Wings’ lead to 4-3 about two minutes later.
• Eichel tied the game at 4 just 41 seconds later, his 100th of his career.
• In overtime, Taro Hirose continued his point streak, notching his fifth assist in five games. He dropped a pass to Danny DeKeyser, who got it to Bertuzzi for his second of the night. Bertuzzi also had a three-point game with an assist on Hronek’s goal.
