The father’s trip wrapped up Tuesday in Nashville, as the Detroit Red Wings finally secured a win for their special guests, beating the Predators 3-2.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jimmy Howard kept his team in the game early, making a plethora of Grade-A saves within the first seven minutes of the game. He finished with 32 saves.
  • Luke Glendening broke the scoreless tie, tipping a Nick Jensen point shot late in the first period.
  • The Predators cut the deficit to 2-1 just 36 seconds later off a wicked Viktor Arvidsson slap shot, and late in the second period, P.K. Subban rifled a shot past Jimmy Howard on the power play to even the game at 2-2.
  • In the third period, Andreas Athanasiou finally broke his scoreless drought, which was at 11 games, off an unorthodox backhand that somehow beat Rinne. His goal ended up being the game winner.

FINAL THOUGHT

The Predators held the possession advantage throughout the game (58.44 percent at 5 on 5), but Howard came up big yet again. Rinne was good, as well, with Athanasiou’s flukey backhand goal being the difference.
The Red Wings extended their winning streak at Nashville to five games. It’s pretty remarkable, considering the Predators were in the Stanley Cup final just two seasons ago and the Red Wings haven’t seen the playoffs the past two seasons.
It was nice the dads were able to see their sons get a win, even if it hurts the #LoseForHughes cause.
