The Red Wings wrap-up the preseason with the second half of a back-to-back with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This game featured more non-NHLers than not, so this was more or less a final try-out for those on the bubble. Detroit managed to take this one 5-1 and finish the preseason with a 7-1 record.

Worth Mentioning

Vili Saarijarvi had a strong game tonight. He picked up the first star with a goal and 4 shots which will help grow his confidence as he embarks on his sophomore season with the Griffins. Here was his goal:
Dominic Turgeon kept the good times rolling with a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0.
Matt Puempel got in on the fun also. Joining his fellow Griffins on the score-sheet with a gorgeous snipe.
Martin Frk power-play bombs are pretty fun. Frk blasts one home to help make his case for a spot on the final roster.
Libor Sulak is a goddamn rock-star. He comes flying out of the box to score on the breakaway.

    Final Thoughts

This turned out to be a fun game. It was the last chance to see all these prospects in action. Going 7-1 on the backs of players we don’t hate yet gave Detroit fans something to cheer about, as the regular season most likely won’t see the same success.
The Red Wings open their season on October 4th at Little Caesers Arena against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
