The Red Wings got back into the win column after dropping three straight with a win over the underachieving St. Louis Blues. Tyler Bertuzzi played hero with a two goal performance – including the game winning goal – on his bobble-head night! It’s a 4-3 win after an up and down game.

Worth Mentioning

  • Detroit completely dominated the Blues in the first half of the game. They lead 16-4 in the shots department after the first period, and followed that up with three goals in the second period. From the way the game went, I would say the tilted ice was more due to the Blues incompetence behind the bench than it was actually the Wings dominating off talent.
  • The first goal came off a slick pass from Gustav Nyquist to Thomas Vanek in the slot.
  •   The second goal came off a tick-tac-toe play that finished with Andreas Athanasiou burying his 11th of the year. Double-A is now the team’s sole leader in goals this season.
  • The third goal was just Tyler Bertuzzi doing Tyler Bertuzzi things. His first goal of the night.
  • Trevor Daley left midway though the second frame. He would not return to the game. Luckily for the Wings they were deploying 7 defensemen tonight.
  • The third period was a total collapse of everything we saw in the first 30 minutes. The Blues got there act together and dictated play for the remainder of the game. They would eventually rally and tie the game at 3.
  • But fear not! Bertuzzi was in the right place at the right time and found the back of the net. Bert is quickly becoming a massive fan favorite.

Final Thoughts

Picking up this win is good for the players confidence. Despite the putrid play to end the game, the team kept the “it’s not over until it’s over” mentality they’ve been rolling with and managed to walk away with a W.
