WINGS POST-GAME: A not so golden (k)night

5 years agoIn town tonight is the Vegas Golden Knights. No longer the new kid on the block, the Wings had a tough battle in front of them against the defending western conference champions. But to their luck, Dylan Larkin made his return to the lineup after missing just one game. Adding Larkin completely changed the dimension of the game.
Alas, it would not be enough. Vegas would go on to win the game by a score of 4-3.
Worth Mentioning
- Gustav Nyquist broke the ice with an early first period goal. Marc-Andre Fleury didn’t hold on to the puck and Nyquist took advantage.
- Detroit played very well in the first 20 minute frame. They out-shot Vegas 14-7 in that department.
- The second period was another story. Vegas rattled off 3 straight goals. A two-on-one goal in particular stood out, Mike Green did a very bad job at defending, allowing not one, but two cross crease passes.
- The Wings got some momentum back, with Michael Rasmussen scoring his 7th goal of the season on the powerplay. Extra points for the celly.
- Another goal by Vegas made it 4-2. Detroit would answer with a goal by Thomas Vanek in the final seconds but it was to little to late.
Final Thoughts
Detroit drops their first game after 3 consecutive wins. Obviously the result is not ideal (at least internally) but it was an overall solid effort.
Getting Larkin and Rasmussen back in the lineup is a positive, however, and will help the team moving forward as they approach the trade deadline later this month.
