The Red Wings have hit a new low. A lot of things have went wrong this year, but they had never lost to the Colorado Avalanche until last night. The Avalanche had just 19 wins in their first 68 games, so last night’s loss was just flat-out embarrassing.

How bad has it got for the Red Wings? Well they’re slight Vegas underdogs in Arizona tonight…that bad.

Tonight will be the second of two meetings between the Red Wings and Coyotes. Detroit dropped the first game 4-1 at Joe Louis Arena, so you bet they’ll be looking to avenge that defeat and try and get back on track after last night’s garbage.

The Red Wings did not hold a morning skate because of the back-to-back, so there is no indication whether they will make lineup changes. The one possible change could be Brian Lashoff in; Niklas Kronwall out. The Red Wings recalled Lashoff from Grand Rapids (AHL) this afternoon and unless someone got hurt last night, he will likely replace Kronwall, who has sat out a couple of back-to-backs this season.

Anthony Mantha got back into the lineup last night but didn’t even record a shot in 13:23 TOI. Andreas Athanasiou recorded the lone goal and it was a beauty.

Despite looking like on the of best players on the ice all night, A.A. only played 12:27 TOI. He now has two goals in his last three games and 16 goals with seven assists (23 points) in 53 games on the season. Dylan Larkin picked up an assist yesterday, which gives him five points (1G / 4A) in his last six games—one of the best stretches (points wise) of his disappointing season.

Arizona Coyotes Lines via DailyFaceoff

The Coyotes are only expected to make one change from their win in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Former Red Wing Teemu Pulkkinen is expected to draw into the lineup for former first round pick Anthony Duclair. This will be Pulkkinen’s second game in a Coyotes’ uniform—he scored a goal on three shots in 10:51 TOI in his debut two weeks ago.

The Coyotes have been paced by veteran winger Radim Vrbata, who has 16 goals and 34 assists (50 points) in 69 games this season. However, their best player remains talented two-way defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. OEL has had 15, 23 and 21 goals in the last three seasons, but is on-pace to finish with just 12 goals this season.

With Jimmy Howard starting last night and fresh off of an injury, it should be Petr Mrazek in the crease tonight. Mrazek caught fire for a little bit in February, but has gone 0-3-1 with a 3.57 GAA and .886 SV% in March.

Mike Smith is expected to start in net for the Yotes. Smith is coming off of a 22-save shutout over the Avalanche on Monday. Smith has been peppered this season, facing an averaged of 32.7 shots per game. The veteran is 12-11-4 with a 2.80 GAA and .916 SV% on home ice this season and he stopped 37 of 38 shots in the win at Joe Louis Arena back in mid-December.
