The Red Wings had a sluggish start last night in  Toronto and dug themselves too deep of a hole to climb out of. Tonight the Red Wings will play their third back-to-back in eight games as they get set to take on the Bruins for the fourth and final time this season. Detroit has gone 1-1-1 in the first three games vs. Boston, averaging 2.67 goals for and 3.33 goals against.

The Bruins come into Wednesday sitting third in the Atlantic Division, but just two points ahead of the Maple Leafs, who are on the outside looking in. They have won four of their last six games and are 8-3-0 while averaging 3.55 goals for and 2.27 goals against in 11 games since firing Claude Julien and hiring Bruce Cassidy as their new head coach.

The Red Wings managed to escape from Toronto unscathed, so they should have the same lineup tonight in Boston. Robbie Russo played 15:44 TOI, registering one hit in his NHL debut last night. It was an OK debut for the second-year pro who will likely see his workload increase as he gets acclimated to the NHL.

Henrik Zetterberg was a monster once again, registering two assists to extend his point streak to seven games. Over that stretch he has one goal and 11 assists (12 points) with five multi-assist games. Zetterberg finished the game in the penalty box with a bleeding face after being caught by an undetected high-stick late in the third period. Gustav Nyquist had two goals on five shots and played 20:18 TOI, which was a big increase from his 13:48 TOI in his return to the lineup on Saturday.

Alexey Marchenko scored his first goal of the season last night, which means that 658 players have a goal this season and Riley Sheahan is not one of them. He is one of nine players who have 40-plus shots and no goals this season—his 83 SOG is the second most shots by a forward without scoring a goal in NHL history.

Boston Bruins Lines via DailyFaceoff

The Bruins will be without Ryan Spooner (concussion) on Wednesday, so Austin Czarnik has been recalled from Providence (AHL)  and will draw into the lineup. The 24-year-old centre had two goals and six assists (eight points) in seven games with Providence. He has spent the majority of the year in Boston, where he has collected five goals and eight assists (13 points) in 47 contests.

Veteran winger Drew Stafford was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets at the trade deadline and has one assists and nine shots on goal in two games with the Bruins and will replace Peter Cehlarik on the second line tonight.

The second line looks dangerous, but the Red Wings will need to wrangle Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Marchand has two goals and two assists in three games vs. the Red Wings this season, while Bergeron has four points of his own (1G / 3A).

Tuukka Rask will get the nod for the Bruins and the Red Wings have not announced who will be in their crease this evening. Petr Mrazek stopped 25 of 28 shots in last night’s loss and if he starts tonight it will be his fourth game in six nights. That is a heavy workload, so don’t be surprised if Jared Coreau makes his first start since February 12th. Coreau has faced the Bruins twice already this season. In the first meeting he was yanked after allowing three goals on eight shots in the first 8:50 in a game Mrazek led the Red Wings back for a 6-5 shootout win. The second, Coreau made 45 saves in a 4-3 overtime defeat.

As for Rask, he is coming off of a loss in Ottawa on Monday and has lost three of his last five starts while posting a 2.61 GAA and .902 SV%. He has started the three previous meetings between these two games and has gone 2-0-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .893 SV%.
